The Future If Literature Was To Be Believed
Writers have always been fascinated with the future, with fictional visions of imagined technology and humanity living in a very different way. We have taken some of these inventions and ideas and created our latest infographic: ‘The Future if Literature was to be believed’. Who needs a guard dog if your grass can do it for you? Grass just sits there doing nothing day in, day out, going brown in the sun. Why shouldn’t it work for you? Thomas A. Easton came up with the idea of security grass. A grass that would not only improve the aesthetic of your futuristic house but that would also be a great anti-burglary system, paralysing anyone who walked on it. Jeff Noon came up with an idea which modern day marketers would love, but the public would probably not appreciate. The idea is of tiny robotic flies, which are set loose into the world and fly around promoting various advertisements in people’s ears literally creating a ‘buzz’. Ever stayed at a hotel and thought, ‘this wallpaper does not go with that carpet’? Well at Hotel Hendrix, in Richard Morgan’s ‘Altered Carbon’, the rooms would change according to your needs and wants. Want to sleep for twelve hours straight? The room would change to being pitch black, so no light could wake you up. Literature has always been a vehicle for predictions about future technology, which turns out to become a reality. Who knows you might well see some of these items in the near future! Future-if-Literature-Believed Source Links: www.technovelgy.com www.huffingtonpost.co.uk
